The Poly - CSI #4

Ok this is a super fun week to join in if you haven't already been playing along with CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiraton Challenges. Just check out the fun inspiration and colors here with Case File #4. I found a silly photo of my husband and boys at the Polynesian Resort where he is pretending to be a dolphin of course! I added a photo of the lush tropical lobby with its waterfall. For the "evidence" this week, I added a frame around my page, used a wet medium -paint, a bit of zebra striped print, some tulle and some super cool reflective dotty paper for the butterflies. I ran out of space or there would have been more. LOL! I journaled about our day which may not be so much of a reflection, but there you go. :) Also, since I know how she feels about seahorses...I added an extra close up for my good friend, Nancy!

That's what I felt like doing, just do a page for fun and even though these photos are the back of my family (the view I have most of the time on holiday), and the skies are grey, I just love the photos. It can be super early on your last day when you are super exhausted, and still that music on Main Street USA will pep you right up. I did this page for the "Do you hear what I hear?" challenge at Disney Scrappers. And I also made it into Sketch #71 for SketchSavvy HERE. I like this sketch because I had room for two good sized photos and lots of embellishment, journaling, and there is still open space and that doesn't happen all that often on my pages. I am usually trying to fill every inch and I end up feeling like its toooo much.

I used all October Afternoon papers and embellishments and most are from the Farmhouse Collection, with a few flowers thrown in from the Sidewalks collection. Its just really fun stuff. I also used a Pink Paislee mask for the background misting.

CSI: Color Stories Inspiration #3

Another Fun Challenge is ready for you at CSI: Color Stories Inspiration HERE. I was scared of this one at first and then I started on my page and I LOVE IT! You will have to go see what the other designers did with these colors because they are all so fantastic and different. This page is also for Sketch #70 at SketchSavvy HERE so check it out when you get a chance. Can you believe we are on 12x12 sketch #70? I was surprised. Oh and I should add that Figaro is not homeless like he looks in the photo. LOL! My husband said he looks like a kitten on one of those sad commercials. He is spoiled rotten but he really didn't want me waking him up by shaking a jingle ball for the photo. When he was that little, I had no choice. He would run run run and crash, but he is awfully cute even when forced to be photographed.

For my layout I used a really cool woodgrain paper for my background that is from the older DCWV All About Boys Stack and honestly its got a big cowboy in the corner but I really wanted to use it so I covered it up. Then I pulled out some super old vintage Basic Grey Lily Kate from my stash. Thats my fave thing about these challenges is pulling out these older papers and using them. I used GCD chipboard flowers with their metal chipboard stamps - thats always a fun thing to do. I love to get out the cute mallet.

Garden Tea Party.

This is a page that I did using a beatiful photo of my good friend, Cheri's, daughters. I used the NEW DCWV Garden Tea Party Stack and I have to tell you guys, this is my fave new stack! I just love the tea theme, well I love anything that relates to tea. LOL But this is just beautiful stuff.

New DCWV Layouts

There are 4 new Die Cuts With a View stacks at JoAnns and I got to play with them! You will love these prints and the great glossy glittery accents - oh and some have a great foil. I hope you can see them in the photos I took. I used the small mat stack patterned papers with the coordinating 12x12 cardstock stacks for all 4 of these pages. The four collections are: Tres Chic, Serenity, Coral Couture, and Lavender Chateau. Below the layouts there is a youtube video showing the stacks by Erin at DCWV.

Not what you thought of when I said Pearls, huh? well when we were at DisneyWorld the first time my boys picked out an oyster so that I would have 2 pearls to make earrings. Yeah, I still have them in my jewelry box and I have GOT to get my uncle to make them into earrings. :)

So I used Crate Paper Portrait Collection for this very Japan Epcot page, but it really works with a bit of die cut bamboo leaves and a koi print chipboard piece from DCWV Far East. I haven't really done the paper weaving thing so I thought I would give that a go here and its pretty fun. This page is for the Disney Scrappers "Small World Challenge".

CSI: Case File #2

I did a very simple page with some scraps and then used some Kreinik iron on threads for the swirly bits by the flowers.

Case File #1 is live at CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration! So here is my first layout and I have to tell you guys that I had so much fun. I love having 5 colors to work with and CLICK HERE to see how the challenges work. Do you love it? I love all of the options, you can totally customize your page.

On my layout I chose the following pieces of "evidence": pins, numbers, and distressing... oh I have lacy too. And then for the "testimony" (journaling), I have used tags and journaled in rhyme. I love this photo and these colors and I totally love this photo of Savvy. As promised, I have a sneak peek of my first layout for the New CSI: Color Stories Inspiration site! The site will launch January 6th and the first challenge was super fun and you can actually customize your challenge to fit what you would like to do. I can't wait for you guys to see these cool challenges, and I can't let the cat out of the bag, but I promise you will have fun. Debbi said I could share this little peek with you guys. I just love this photo of Savvy on Christmas eve passed out on the couch by the tree.

Framed Tag

Everyone is doing holiday tags and things but I just can not find the time to do a whole group of them during the holiday season. If you are like me, you see them and think about how you wish that you could make time. Well, how about ONE tag. Just one cute little tag. I can do that! I pulled out my DCWV French Country stack, because it's just so beautiful, and I made one tag. It was fairly quick once I found this little pear on a holiday pick. I cut the styrofoam pear in half and hot glued it to the paper rosette that I made. I also have a little stash of broken costume jewelry from thrift stores and things and I used a piece with a half pearl on the pear. Since the paper is all glossy glittery here and there, I didn't need the extra glitter, but I added a bit around the scalloped circle to make it look sugary and some mica flake looking snow for the plastic holly at the top. And done. The frame is an old one from my grandmother, that was falling apart anyway, so I added my favorite print for the background and pinned the tag on. Then I thought maybe I could make a spring tag to put in there after Christmas. :) The cool part is that that blue is the exact color of my walls in the master bathroom and it looks very cute between our mirrors for a bit of Christmas cheer.

CHECK IT OUT!!!Starting January 6th you will have a new place for inspiration and challenges! CSI: Color Stories, Inspiration. We all love color challenges like The Color Room, right? Well, this one has a bit of a twist for those of us who need a bit more of a push to make those layouts exciting and fun to create. Not just color inspiration but some great design and journaling prompts too! What's the best part? well for me, the best part is that I was chosen to join the super talented Design Team! WOOHOO! Do Not Open til Christmas

Here is my page for Sketch Savvy 2 page sketch #13 . I just love this fun "12 Days of Christmas" collection by My Mind's Eye. The colors are perfect for my photos of my disney tree. Figaro likes to guard the tree and presents and pop out and get the other kitties when they come by. It's pretty funny to watch.

Sounds of Disney

This page is for a fun challenge at Disney Scrappers that is all about the sounds at Disney parks that make it special. You know the sound of the crickets in the boarding area at Pirates of the Caribbean or inside Blue Bayou, the horn that sounds when the big wave is coming in Typhoon Lagoon, or the Trolly in Toon Town at Disneyland. I still haven't taken photos of Push, the talking trashcan, or the talking water fountain in Epcot. I did find this photo of me opening the talking mailbox in Toon Town. Yes, I opened it like 20 times. LOL! you just have to. I found the other two photos of the post office online because I didn't get photos and it's just so darn cute. I used October Afternoon's Sidewalk collection plus a few pieces from other October Afternoon collections. This is my page for Sketch #69 at SketchSavvy (SEE IT HERE). I added some of the phrases that the mailbox says for the journaling.

Nutcrackers

My son has always collected Nutcrackers and he got two nice ones from my mom and stepdad this past Christmas so I took photos of him with them. This is for the Basic Grey Sketch for this week by Kathleen Summers. Her page is just adorable with the photos of sweet daughter, but I wanted to use larger photos so I only used two photos with the same layout design. I love the Jovial collection and I just had to cut a bunch of the flowers and things out to use for dimension. I also used a pine garland border punch for the strip along the bottom and added circle punched berries with foam tape. I found a gold sword pick that was in my grandmothers ornament making stash and I added it because Alex started collecting Nutcrackers when he was little because of the swords :)

Crazy bat dude

Yep, this is last Halloween and that IS my husband terrorizing the neighborhood. He was running around trying to be like batman, but the rest of the costume was the truely scary part. LOL! I love this Midnight Magic stack from DCWV and for coordinating flowers I used the NEW Creamy Stack from DCWV. Its this super smooth cardstock weight paper that has a finish that you have to just feel. Its.... creamy? well, I want to call it sort of satin feeling. It makes wonderful dimensional flowers too, since it holds it shape so well. Click on the close up of the flower to really see this Creamy Stack paper better. The bats are from the Midnight Magic banner kit. There are just so many great die cuts in that kit.

More Fall tags!

Well I had some time this weekend to get more fall tags done and now my desk looks pretty scary. I think tags make a bigger mess than layouts because you are gathering all kinds of things that you might want to use and then you cut little bits and pieces. Anyway, I am playing along a bit with Nancy Burke's 12 Tags of Fall on her blog. She has great tutorials for her tags and even with the step by step instructions, I seem to have veered away. LOL! I started by working on her Tag #2 and it turned out pretty close to the example for me.

Then I tried Tag #4 and I had this little thistle looking thing and some flowers but then I thought of my favorite fall drink and the tag took a bit of a turn....and I went downstairs and made a pumpkin chai tea latte.

Next I tried Nancy's Tag #5 and I ended up with 2 tags. First I did the doily and buttons tag and I really liked it but I didn't have room for the cute bee stamp! That won't do, so I made a bee and honeycomb tag just so I could use that stamp. Why are bees fall-ish? you might ask? well, bees make honey and it goes in my hot tea that I have every single morning in the fall. :)

Fall Tag #1

Have you seen the Fall Tag tutorials that Nancy Burke is doing on her blog? There will be 12 and they are so awesome that I just had to try and play along. The thing is that I am a bit behind. Today is day #3 and I am just finishing the first one. I hope to catch up this weekend. I love fall decor but when I started working on these, I found out that I just didn't have alot of fall stuff in my stash so I used papers, fabrics, and ribbons that were the right colors. My tags need to be more cream and brown colors to go with my decor too. I tried to do the cool background and found out I need to make or buy more warm tones of mist! I ended up stamping my text in Walnut stain distressed ink and then sponging Brushed Corduroy distressed ink and I think those are the types of browns I need for my tags. I just loved her tied cinnamon so I had to have that part but I added a metal lock rather than a clock because I couldn't find one that worked for me.

Skipping

It's our tradition and it is pretty odd to see large guys skipping but it's my Daddy's fault. He always used to take us to DisneyWorld and Disneyland and he would skip to embarrass us. Well, he got my husband doing it when we all finally went in 2002. Now everytime we go, its our way of remembering him, and of course its good for embarrassing other members of our family. This is my sister, my husband, and my son, trying to skip on Main Street in the morning crowds. It's tradition. :)

Fabric Paper

If you guys have seen the new stacks from DCWV, you were probably curious about the beautiful adhesive Fabric Paper Stacks. Imagine you had fabric that you added adhesive backing to and then put the sticker backing paper - so its like any adhesive paper but this is just fabric. So cool. Let me tell you what I did with this card. I cut squares of fabric paper, peeled the backing off and attached it to the card. It sticks really well so that would have been fine, but I wanted the quilted look and you know I have to stitch on everything. LOL! For the flowers, I wanted to cut them with my Cricut so I cut pieces of fabric and attached them to scraps of white cardstock first. Then I cut the flowers just like normal in the Cricut and they cut beautifully and the best part is that I could make a dimensional flower because the cardstock added stability to the soft fabric. My mom gave me some beautiful doilies this past weekend so when I added one to a card, I had to make it for her. Anyway, you guys are going to have to see this fabric in person because its really quite nice and can you imagine a whole layout with a quilted background like this!

Reuseable Holiday tags (chalkboard paper -DCWV)

yeah, I am having fun with this stuff! I did that last layout with a black sheet of the chalkboard stack but there are like 6 colors in the NEW DCWV Chalkboard Stack - two blacks, green, burgundy, slate blue, and grey. So I thought what if I made Christmas gift tags that you could use for years! I made them with the traditional school chalkboard green and some red DCWV glitter cardstock so they will go with both of my trees colors. The holiday paper is from last years DCWV Tis the Season stack. I stitched them so they will hold up longer, and I wrote the to: and from: in white gel pen so I could just wipe off the chalk names and change them each time. I certainly don't have a teacher's nice chalkboard handwriting, but I think these are fun and it doesn't matter about your handwriting.

And for my friend (you know who you are!) who doesn't believe you can actually dust the chalk off nicely..... here is proof! LOL! Seriously, I just used my paper towel that my hot tea was sitting on and one swipe and its off .

The NEW Chalkboard Stack! by DCWV

You just have to see the New DCWV Chalkboard Stack!!! It's just the most fun new paper. If you like to doodle, you must have this stack. It has a slight texture and special surface that allows you to use chalk just like a chalkboard, but better because it wipes off very nicely. I have a couple of tips for using chalks on this paper though. If your chalk is new or has been handled alot, you will need to rough the end a bit before drawing. You could just scribble on a piece of paper, but I have a sanding block and it works fantastic and quick.

My first thought was "How cool! I can make something altered or a card with chalk, but in my scrapbook I don't want chalk that will dust off easily." Ok, not a problem, you can use lots of cool things on this. I like using watercolor pencils the best but I have many more colors in my watercolor crayons so that's what I used for my page today. I think watercolor pencils would be better because you can do more detailed doodling. I also used the new Recollections "Midnight Magic" stack by DCWV since I was using Halloween photos. This is my black Halloween tree and wreath. My decorations are sort of themed with Nightmare before Christmas, so I drew Jack and Zero. The little orange frame is actually from the chipboard for the Animal Crackers collection from DCWV.
Oh one more thing - If you use watercolor pencils, you can use a paper towel or qtip with water to erase if you mess up! I did it ALOT on this page. LOL! If you draw on papers with those you cant erase, but this is a really cool surface that doesn't get damaged with a bit of water. Give it a try!

Summer fun with "Peppermint"

Why not? I have these less than stellar photos from Blizzard Beach. The first time my husband and son went down Summit Plummet. The park is themed like a freak blizzard has hit central Florida in the summer. It's very snowy looking with an alpine ski resort atmosphere. I just got this cute Peppermint Collection from Crate Paper and I probably should have thought of Christmas photos. LOL! I just love the fun paper that looks like little tags and it was perfect for a little banner on top of a strip of chenile fabric. I sort of stitched it down, but if you look closely you can see a white pom pom trim piece too.***Thanks to Nancy for finally noticing I spelled the darn thing wrong! lol I have fixed it and will rephotograph today. See sometimes design takes over and things like spelling just go out the window. sheesh! sorry for the fail guys :)

Apfelstrudel!

We just love German Apfelstrudel and we have a favorite little bakery in New Braunfels, TX to get it for Christmas, but we also have a tradition of stopping for it in Epcot Germany when we are at DisneyWorld. I took this funny photo of my husband and son enjoying the yummy Apfelstrudel and vanilla sauce...mmmmmm! When I got the Crate Paper Farmhouse collection and saw the apples, I immediately thought of these photos. The stickers, die cuts, and chipboard elements are just so fun. I added a recipe in the pocket above, but it had to be printed on the front and back of the card so its not all that practical to use for actually baking but its a fun thing to have. And yes, I want to run to the store and buy the ingredients NOW. :)

This is a photo that I just love. Its my brother when he was 2 and he was not camera shy at all! I used the beautiful new "French Country" stack by DCWV for most of the page, but I did add a bit of brown tweed print from Michaels' Recollections "Regent Street" stack by DCWV. These French Country papers are just lovely designs and have the signature DCWV glossy glittery accents. We're all mad here

I was planning to post this back on Oct 6th which was Mad Hatter day but life keeps getting in the way of me doing fun things! Don't you just hate that? Anyway, these are my little weirdos and I could have added a photo of my husband because he was just as goofy at this brunch. We were having a nice Mother's Day brunch at Moody Gardens in Galveston, but of course they were all acting like the Hatter, Hair, and Cheshire at a tea party! I had fun theming up the page a bit and using white on white for a bit of a mothers day brunch tone.

The papers are Echo Park and Simple Stories, the cool green trim is Pink Paislee, the teacup is cut using the Disney Classics cart, and the border punch is Martha Stewart. Oh and the purple paper is vintage Basic Grey and then I embossed it and drybrushed white acrylic paint over the surface a bit.

Simple Halloween Banner

I just got the completely fun Midnight Magic Banner kit from Recollections by DCWV for Michaels. You would not believe how much stuff is in this kit! Seriously, I only used about 1/5th of the pack of goodies and I have lots left over that may end up on other decor items or on scrapbook pages because there are so many great die cuts and things in this pack. I used a piece of purple paper from last years DCWV Midnight Spell stack, because for my home decor I needed a bit of purple.(I have ceramic Halloween kitties on my mantle that have purple dots.) Anyway, the banner pieces and triangles are all pre-cut so I really put this together in no time. I did add black glitter to the spiders, I did some stitching, and then added eyelets where the ribbons tie the pieces together. I just needed something fairly quick because I just put up all of my decorations the other day. LOVE this collection and I can't wait to get the 12 x 12" Midnight Magic Stack :)

gift tags for jars

I have two jars of Starbucks mixes that you add to coffee/tea drinks. One is Gingerbread and the other is Cinnamon Roll but they look ALOT alike. I also filled two jars for my sister, so I decided to use the ultra yummy Farmhouse Collection from Crate Paper to make little tags. I also just got this cute Ranger Butterfly die and I cut a stack of fabric butterflies out and layered them. The flower is also a Ranger die. I just thought you guys might want to see a little fall project for your scraps.

Barnstormer

I just got this New DCWV Great Vacation Stack and the papers are just so fun and cheerful that I had to find a way to use the little airplane paper. I want to use the paper with the jets on it for actual airport photos, but the little plane made me think of Goofys Barnstormer at the Magic Kingdom. And the clouds are just fun to layer with foam squares. I cut apart a little journaling block and attached it at the top and bottom of the photo mat. The Goofy is cut from DCWV cardstock and coordinating papers using the Mickey and Friends Cricut cartridge.

I have a little tip - when you are using papers with glossy or glittery accents like the foil and gloss on these papers, don't forget that you need a truly permanent marker that is meant to write on glossy surfaces. I tried to use my fine point sharpie and guess what? that did not dry at all! I am sure there are other options, but I recommend the American Crafts Slick Writer markers.

Did you know that Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland is getting a huge expansion so they have taken out Mickey's ToonTown Fair to make room. I will miss Mickey and Minnie's houses but I just cant wait to see the new Fantasyland, it looks like it will be amazing. The good news is that the Barnstormer is going to be updated. I hope this is code for LONGER ride. LOL! Did you know that if you start timing when you actually take off on the ride, its 16 seconds long? How crazy is that? I mean if you count getting in and out of the vehicle its about a minute. It's a fun little ride but waiting in a queue for 20 min for a 16 second ride is not cool. Still I am glad we have photos because its really cute and fun.

More of this fun Midnight Spell stack from DCWV. And very soon I will have some things to show you using the New Midnight Magic stack. :) Noel was playing with orange tissue on Halloween last year when I unpacked some of the ornaments, but the photo makes her look like she really wants some treats - she usually does. The headless horse cat is a digi stamp from the Scary Cats Collection by my good friend, Cheri Wenger. (See the set HERE) I printed it out on watercolor paper and painted it with Twinkling H2O watercolors that have a bit of shimmer in them. These beautiful papers from the Midnight Spell stack have alot of glossy glittery accents so it worked out perfectly. I had to paint the kitty so he looks like Savvy because Savvy had his head in the pumpkin that Alex carved last year and he does enjoy scaring Noel.

Tea Time!

You know I have wanted to scrap these photos for my book for years and I really want to use all 4x6" photos and I have 6 that I want to use so I can tell the story of my silly husband, brother and sister trying to fit into one teacup! Well, I still haven't scrapped it for my book but I decided to use three of the photos for a page for my sister. I used the sketch from the Basic Grey blog and the fantastic Basic Grey "Sweet Threads" collection. I just love the fluffy felt flowers they have now so I added one to a tag and made a micky icon with it like on my Disney memories book. Then I decided that I needed the Hatter too and he works perfectly with this collection.

Westward Ho! **CCG 210

I saw this Color Combos Galore Challenge #210 and I had to pull out some Frontierland photos from DisneyWorld. The colors are just perfect. And yes, you are allowed to use 3 photos on one layout! I know, most designers will use three wallet sized photos but I am a freak about using large photos so there you go. LOL! I used a Basic Grey ledger patterned paper for the background and found an older Cosmo Cricket frame that has a wood grain pattern in just the perfect color. The title is cut from a textured paper by Sakar Papers, and the stars are actually a faux rusted metal garland for mini trees from Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago. The papers are MME and DCWV with some little die cut stickers from Crate Paper. I made the yo yos. Oh and I just painted the doily, you have to kind of keep it from getting too wet but it works quite nicely

Well, it's getting close and I couldn't wait any longer. I got this adorable "Scary Cats" set of digi stamps from Cheri Wenger Designs at MyGraphico HERE I cut the spider web out with my Cricut and printed the little spider onto watercolor paper so I could paint him. The papers are all DCWV Midnight Spell stack, so they have bits of sparkly embossing.

A super fun combo and challenge! This weeks Color Combos Galore challenge #209 is to focus on a single person or item and I really couldn't just use one photo so I have two photos focusing on one person. I love the colors and I gathered a bunch of random goodies to put on the page. I have some fun MME and Echo Park papers, and a few random DCWV chipboard and sticker elements. I love this bicycle from the Colorful Life collection. I really wish DCWV had more embellishments with their collections. And yes, my son, Christopher can be quite a camera ham when he wants to be. :) I just can't seem to get him to actually take photos except with his phone. I am sorry, even with my Evo, phone photos just bite.

So a few years ago, when Hurricane Ike came thru and we were without power for days, there were no computers, xbox, or tv so my guys were super bored. I heard them yelling at each other like they were playing Wii or something and I found this nonsense! They were playing with the kitties' jingle ball and it went on for quite a long time. They are so weird! You cant see them in the photo, but the kitties were a foot or two away wondering why they wouldn't share.

As you can see, I didn't put the Basic Grey Oxford Collection away after that last layout. I seriously have to get more because my world is these colors. He's gotta wear Shades. LOL! yes, he thought it was hokey too, but dh loved it! Could these Basic Grey Oxford Collection papers be any more perfect for these photos?! I didn't even make him change clothes. When I said I wanted a first day of college photo, he asked if I wanted him to change, but I wanted him to wear what he wore that day. It's totally Brett. We are pretty proud of him. He just got finished with his 4 years in the Marines and has just started college and he is loving it!

I used papers and stickers from the Oxford Collection from Basic Grey and the title alphas are from Pink Paislee. I know the glasses sticker isn't really sunglasses but it was so darn cute that I had to use it. I only found part of the collection when I was shopping and after seeing how well it goes with all of my photos of the boys, I am going to have to get the whole pack.

50s Prime Time Cafe

I have to start by thanking my good friend, Nancy, for taking this photo for me on her last vacation. See my family had a great time at 50s Prime Time Cafe at Disney Hollywood Studios, but I lost my photos from that day so she went in and took a few for me. :) So this isn't our cast member. We had Uncle George serving our meal and he was fantastic. Uncle George said, "You know why we have to mind our manners, right?.... Because it's the 50's!" and I just loved that. The food was fantastic and we had great fun.

As you can see, I had quite alot of fun with this New Happy Days Collection from Echo Park . So many great papers and stickers. I only bought one pack of the collection but I am going to have to buy another paper pack. I had to try and paper piece the restaurant sign because the tvs are all awfully cute there. I added a vintage Mickey Mouse club sticker from a vintage stickers pack that I bought at DisneyWorld.

Oops! I totally forgot to show you guys a little tutorial about that pearl poofed ribbon border. Yes, poofed is a word now, you can add it to your dictionary. I put one together for Color Combos Galore this week because we are all sharing ideas to go with the challenge to use pearls. This is super simple and doesn't really need a tutorial but hey, maybe if I show how simple it is, more of you guys will give it a go, right?

I found some great papers in the Basic Grey Hello Luscious and Indie Bloom collections that had this Mulberry color. Feeling like Fall

Now highs in the low 90's might not seem like fall to everyone, but here in Houston it feels wonderful and we have had cool nights for a couple of days too! Still no rain but it feels wonderful outside and I am in the mood for fall! I hope all of my Texan friends are safe and not in the path of any of the fires.

So I have this new Echo Park Apothecary Emporium collection and its such fun stuff that this page just fell into place! I love to take photos of my kitties at Halloween, but Fig looks especially great with his orange eyes. Actually his eyes go from a deep gold to deep orange, depending on the photo. I have to point out something that I did on this page, because I wasn't sure it would work and it worked perfectly. See that cute circle kitty motif? The accordion folded piece under it isn't paper, it's actually a lace border sticker from this pack. I sprinkled baby powder on the sticker side, then cut along the edge of the lace for a bumpy edge, and then scored &folded to create the circle. It did get a bit sticky again when I was scoring, but it still worked nicely. Fun thing to try, huh? I took a couple of extra close ups so you can see the lacey border and also because the little stickers and things are so cute. Tye Dyed Fun! New DCWV

Ok whether you own a tie dyed shirt or not, you have to admit that they are pretty fun and they do make you smile! Well, the New Tye Dyed Stack from DCWV is just terribly fun stuff with glossy glittery bits, and I have just the photos. We stayed at the Pop Century Resort in the 60's buildings area and the colors and themes were ultra groovy! :) I loved the huge tie dyed 60 on the side of the main building. This page is for my brother's album so I am kind of hoping he doesn't check my blog. I think, I'm safe. LOL! I splattered a bit of paint on the white background and I used my Cricut to cut the flowers and title. I just love cutting titles from the DCWV glittered cardstock and this font (Keep on Truckin) is alot like the font used on the buildings at the resort.

Color Combos Galore Challenge #207 is live and you will love this inspiration photo! And if you are like me, then you will probably look at the colors and think - wow, those are tough! LOL! But wait - look again, because I really like my card and when the reveal was posted I was very surprised at the fantastic layouts! Check them out HERE because you are going to want to play along with this one. The challenge is fun too - Text! So here is my card with a big old flower made by cutting old dictionary pages in scalloped circles and folding and then assembling them in a circle. I do have a bit of advice.... if you try to get your cricut to cut book paper or dictionary paper, use an old mat. Mine was a bit too sticky and I had a terrible time peeling the paper off and you can see the text on the mat now. HA!

Now I have to admit that I have been tempted by the Smash Books or other journals, because I just love them, but they are not exactly my style. Since I LOVE patterned paper, I really have to have yummy papers for any book of mine. Also,if I am taking a book on a holiday with me or anywhere for that matter, it needs to fit into my camera bag. So check this out! I made my own Disney Moments to Remember journal/book using Basic Grey "Out of Print" and "Indie Bloom" collections and Basic Grey Stamps. It's mostly for memorabilia, quotes, stories about our trip and other things that I know I will forget if I don't write them down. From our past trips I have piles of little papers and memorabilia and they are in baggies, so I don't always think to look thru them when I start a layout. This is way cooler.

My good friend, Kristin, let me use her binding thing and I made a thick chipboard cover because I will be VERY rough on this book. The pages are 4.5 x 6" and I think its a perfect size. For the pages, I have used half cute patterned papers and half watercolor paper. Since I know this will get very bulky I wanted an elastic band to hold the book closed and this old Basic Grey stretchy ribbon is PERFECT!!! I got a sharpie pen to attach, and I just had to buy the dotty tape for attaching random things. If you don't have these BG fluffy felt flowers, you just have to get some because they are just too stinkin cute for words! LOL!

Ok here is where it gets really fun - the inside! I made a few pocket pages. I also got a pack of "Out of Print" die cuts and put the larger ones in one of the pockets, and the small ones are in a little baggie in another pocket. I also used some of those cool BG journaling stamps to make extra tags and of course you must have punched Mickeys and Castles. Well, I must. The best part is that if you put double sided tape on the backs, they are now stickers for when you are on the go and don't have glue.

I attached some of the big die cuts to the pages and added some of the stamps - because it's fun. Then I used my old Twinkling H2O Watercolors to coordinate the boring watercolor pages with the cute patterned paper. I took the photos with the sun at an angle so I am kind of hoping that you can see the bit of sparkle in the watercolors. You have to have a bit of sparkle for Disney, you know. :)

And then in the very back of the book I made an envelope with a tie closure to hold things like those receipts you get at Disney for the goodies that you buy and are having delivered back to your resort. I have to confess that I am seriously thinking there need to be 3 envelopes just for those receipts....so I may have to add on. LOL! I hope you guys will give this a try because this is such a fun project. I am trying to find another reason to make one!

Black, White, & Grey...

Color Combos Challenge #206 is live HERE! It certainly was a challenge for me this week because its a monochromatic combo and you guys know I love lots of colors. I do love a challenge though and I had fun creating this layout with a photo of my black, white, and grey piles of fur! I even found a piece of black boa that looks like the fur that I am cleaning up all the time. LOL!

I used some older Basic Grey Black tie collection along with this specialty paper that has thick flocking from Hobby Lobby. The white stamped design is the ancient Making Memories foam stamps with white acrylic paint. Do you guys still have any of those? if so, pull them out and give it a go! I sort of splattered the background with charcoal Glimmer Mist and then with a bit of black acrylic paint. I actually just put a wooden skewer into the paint and flicked it onto the page and it worked pretty well. The adorable little kitty is cut from a super old piece of Daisy Ds paper and the hearts are from an old print that didn't have the name anymore. :) How's that for going back into the stash!!!

This page is for a Disney Scrappers Challenge called "Did you know that...?" One of the main differences between a Disney park and all the rest are the little details. Most of them we walk right by, never noticing them and often if we do notice, we have no idea of the significance. This challenge is to focus on the kinds of little details most of us just walk right by. I know I have many that I could have chosen, but I thought of the liberty bell first.

I made Sketch #63 for SketchSavvy using this layout. I also have included the cut file for this border with the Sketch HERE

My mom is the most creative person I have ever met, just saying. Anyway, when my brother was little and we pretty much lived at the lakehouse, in the water, she found a way to keep him in the shade that was was pretty clever. She had Daddy stack rocks around a giant beach umbrella next to the dock so they could play in the water. Of course I probably wouldn't stay anywhere near the shallow shady water and there was always alot of zinc across my face. LOL! So when I saw this weeks Color Combos Galore Challenge #205 inspiration photo, I knew I wanted to scrap this photo for the sort of vintage look. Not sure if 1971 counts as vintage, but it certainly isn't new. I went super light on the colors and used alot of the light color so that my dark photo would work. Then my photo made the colors look a bit lighter than they really are because I do not have shade here. If anyone wants to send me some rain, I would appreciate it.

I used My Minds Eye papers from the Out & About collection. The straw sun shape is just a christmas ornament or tag I picked up somewhere, and the corded twill is something from the drapery department at JoAnns. I even found some Magic Mesh for more of the basket look. Oh and I used my October Afternoon Sprinklers for a bit of spritz on the background. Love those Sprinklers.

Two Crazy Years

I got this awesome photo of Fig on his birthday this year so I had to do a page showing how much he has changed. The little photo was the day we brought him home. He is just a mess most of the time, but he is very sweet beautiful kitty. Oh he doesn't like anyone who doesn't normally live here and he does want to chew up EVERYTHING. LOL!

I used the New DCWV Lemon Flower stack because its so totally perfect for Figaro's fur and eyes. If you haven't seen this stack, check it out HERE. I found a really fluffy button that had to be used too. I took one close up with the sun highlighting the glossy glittery bits because this paper is pretty cool. I cut the title from the smaller 4x6 mat stack patterned papers.

Beachy Combo

This is going to be a super fun month at Color Combos Galore because there are some great summery inspiration photos with fantastic colors. This week Color Combos Galore Challenge #203 is super beachy with a fun challenge to use something translucent like the beautiful beach glass in the photo. I just had to find some of my beachy photos to scrap. And I chose to use vellum for flowers for translucent, but I also painted Twinkling H2Os sparkly watercolors around the perimeter for a sheer bit of color. I used My Minds Eye papers from the Stella and Rose collection and also from the Lime Twist Collection. The background is a Basic Grey Basics paper. For the title, I borrowed an idea from my friend, Madeline, I mixed up some Basic Grey Chipboard alphas, used white crackle paint, then sanded. (thanks Madeline!) I added a shell trim and some sequins for a bit of fun.

I rarely scrap photos of the parades or fireworks shows at Disney Parks because they are such a challenge for me but this Basic Grey Out of Print Collection has perfect colors for Spectromagic and along with the white background, it really brightens up these very dark photos. The print with the dark background and dots is almost made for these types of photos. I have got to get my hands on some of those adorable little Basic Grey yo yo flowers too.

Color Combos Galore Challenge #202

You guys will love the colors this week for Color Combos Galore Challenge #202. I have to tell you guys about my week. We had a lightening strike at our house that knocked out circuits, AC, and most of our electronics so things here have been rather difficult. But I loved these colors SO much that I just had to play along! I was able to use my mini laptop to upload. I hope you guys will check out all of the Design Team's creations and maybe play along too.

I used Fancy Pants papers for the most part and the background paper that looks like a chalkboard is actually the same paper as the frame, I just cut it apart. Then I dry brushed white paint around the photo and added journaling with a white gel pen. WHY do all of my white gel pens malfunction?! I mean I have the best ones that everyone else raves about, but mine are seriously crap. Just saying. LOL!

Space Cadet

I was visiting the October Afternoon blog and they were talking about using less than perfect photos and it made me think of this one. I had to lighten it quite a bit because of the way the morning sun is angled and my husband isn't facing the camera, but you don't get a photo op like this every day so I am using it! Ok maybe with my family, you do get photos like this quite often, but I still like it. I am not sure what he was doing but he was in Mission Space mode in Future World at Epcot so there was some spacey nonsense. I used the awesome Rocket Age Collection from October Afternoon and I have to tell you that I LOVE the Sprinklers sprays! This is the first time I have used them but you will be seeing more and I must have the new ones they have just released. I also love the buttons because there are 50 in a pack and I like to use alot of buttons.

Mice Crispies

When we go to Disney World the boys like to get what they call the Mice Crispies which are the Mickey rice krispy treats on a stick that are dipped in chocolate - Chris likes the white chocolate. Well, just check out these huge Mickey treats! Perry's wants me to make some at home. There is just something about watching the ladies in the Main Street Confectionery create treats that makes them extra special and the vanilla scent doesn't hurt.

I used all Basic Grey Out of Print Collection for this and its just a really fun collection to play with. Such fun colors. The cute little metal strip is from Pressed Petals.

Have you seen the video from DCWV's booth at CHA??? If you haven't you just have to check it out. What a booth! Last time the booth was amazing with all of the incredible paper dresses, but I think this is just over the top cooler! The trees alone are just stunning and I can not wait to get my hands on those Christmas collections. I know you guys can't wait for Erin to show everyone how to make the ornaments :) Many of these collections are already in stores so check them out, and I'm going to start stalking Michaels for those Christmas collections! First of all - take a couple of minutes to watch this fantastic video tour of the coolest booth ever.

I was lucky enough to do the layouts for the booth, so I am going to share a few of my favorites here. I didn't use my photos this time since I won't be getting these layouts back. That means that I will probably re-create some of these in the very near future for myself so you will get to see them again.

I told you I love this collection. While I had it out, I had to do another page. This is all Victoria Gardens Collection by Echo Park. Cassandra out did herself with this collection. So you saw my pink flamingos in the corner of my little garden, but this is the whole garden. It has actually grown quite alot since this photo, but now its really ugly. LOL!

I just punched these squares, scraped the edges, and crumpled them. It takes some time but its super easy. Then for the ruffle edge, I just cut the little sku strip at the bottom of the paper and on some of them I even left the name of the collection since it goes with my page. :) so the whole ruffle is something that most people would throw away. Look at the bottom strip before you cut it off your next paper.

I just got my New Echo Park Victoria Gardens collection and I had to make a page right away! Don't you just LOVE it?! I think the patterns and colors are fantastic so I can already see that I need another collection pack. And it's a great collection just to have around because the prints are fantastic for just about anything, but I thought of my photos from Crystal Palace in Walt Disney World right away so I had to do this page first. I just loved the little menu journaling block and I almost tried to print some of the yummy foods on it and then I thought of Pooh and he is much cuter there. :)

Here is my layout for the Color Combos Galore Challenge #200. For the drippy bits, I made dots and splashes with Glossy Accents and I really like the way they turned out - hopefully you can see them well in the close up photo. We have had cloudy skies for a couple of days and I couldn't get a nice photo. The papers are mostly DCWV with the blue wave paper from K&Co. I wanted to show you a little technique but there aren't any terribly exciting techniques on my page. One thing that I like to do sometimes is to make my patterned paper look like the edge of a spiral so I punch holes and then tear them. For this page I used a 3/8" EK circle punch but it's also fun to use larger punches like 1/2" or 3/4" and you do not have to measure the distance or anything that time consuming. Just start punching along the edge and don't worry about spacing, this is meant to be sort of rough. Then to tear them place your closed scissors tip in the hole and just pull it outward to tear the paper. It makes a nice tear like a metal spiral would.

Herbs & Flamingos Color Combos Galore #199

My husband can not stand my little tacky flamingos in my box garden, a nice metal sculpture in the shape of a flamingo would be fine, but he really cant stand these. So, of course, I had to do a page about them. LOL! Actually my herbs are about the only thing growing well this year so I wanted a page with a list of the lot. I used We R Memory Keepers Tiffany papers, Basic Grey Lemonade, and a really cool flower that my friend Heidi made for me :) I wanted to paint the doily yellow but couldn't find a good yellow in my acrylic paints so I painted it with Twinkling H2Os and it looks really sparkly in person but it didn't really show up in photos.

Magic Kingdom Marching Band

I love marching bands and that moment when the band comes down Main Street in the evening with the clear tones of the brass and sax, it gives me chills. I was so happy to find this EK Mickey sticker set with the great instruments. That along with this fantastic K&Co Americana collection, made putting together this page quite simple. I used a Basic Grey embossing template to emboss the light blue cardstock under the photo mats.

She's Crazy!

For Disney Challenge #6 "Say What?!?" you have to use a quote from family or a friend at Disney. Well, it helps to write the good stuff down while you are there and my husband takes video so I watched our video and found this one. My son, Chris, was 15 the first time we went to Disney World and he is not a fan of heights so he was quite shocked that Tinkerbell was actually zooming across that wire to start the fireworks so he shouted out. LOL! I didn't take a photo of him at that moment and my photos of Tinkerbell didn't work so I used one of my regular fireworks shots.

Some of you may know that I do pages with Disney Details - the little touches around the parks that I think are cool. Well I just found a site of Simple Things about Disney. Its a list of the super special moments that make the trips special. I just love the list because so many of them are the things we love - the reasons that we save for years to go back. For this page I used #40 When Tinkerbell crosses the night sky to start the fireworks.

Jedi Master Mickey

For Disney Scrappers Challenge #5 "Spaced Out" we have to use our spacey photos, a metal embellishment, and also blue and black. Well I have a touch of a blue green ;). I chose these photos of Jedi Mickey at which means I have officially started scrapping Star Wars Weekend photos. I have really been avoiding these because they are TOUGH and I have alot of them.

I used sketch #60 from Sketch Savvy. Who would have thought I would be using Basic Grey Archaic collection to scrap Star Wars Weekends, but after looking at many of the photos I think I will be using it alot more - good thing I got 2 packs of this collection. This is my page for Disney Scrappers Challenge #4 "Kinda Sketchy". The challenge was to use photos that aren't theme or attraction related and to use Sketch #58 from Sketch Savvy I chose a photo I took in '02 and again in the same spot in '05 at the Land Pavilion. They did a major renovation at the beginning of 05 and the pavilion now has Soarin' where Food Rocks was. It's also much brighter in the Sunshine Season food area below, but I really miss the retro cool look of the round tables and chairs. Still I was happy they kept the balloons and same sort of groovy feel. Its my favorite pavilion in Future World at Epcot for certain.

I used new Lime Twist papers from My Mind's Eye, along with some Sandylion puffy stickers and daisies that I made. Of course the mickey is a paint chip but I thought the Orange Blast color was incredibly appropriate. Those of you who are familiar with Soarin' will understand the little nod to that ride. :)

Swimming with the fishes

At Typhoon Lagoon you get to swim in Sharks Reef with the fish, sharks, rays, etc. On our first trip we asked a cast member which way it was to swim with the fish and he made a swimming with the fishes joke so we always call it that now. After two trips we have decided that the disposable water cameras are not going to cut it next time so we just got a waterproof digi camera for our next trip to a waterpark or disney.

This page is for Disney Challenge #2 at Disney Scrappers. The challenge is called Caution: You may get wet! and for an additional challenge you are supposed to use red, orange, and a circle element which is super easy with this great "Salt Air" collection from Cosmo Cricket. The colors are perfect for my cheesy underwater shots. I used a bit of the Snorkel collection too.

Bella Color Combos Galore #197

I need someone to help me with titles seriously. I can not use bella or bella notte for every disney italy page. LOL!!! I was out of time this time and just used it because it looked pretty with this font. Check out the inspiration photo for Color Combos Galore #197 HERE. I really wanted to use photos with lots of flowers and after digging awhile I found the perfect one. I tried to go with some architectural details and so foo foo pretty. Love these MME and BG papers and then I added some embossed stamping and gathered ribbon. I love this ribbon look so I will be using it again. I stitched the pearls over the ribbon to hold it in place. Oh I forgot to mention that the designer challenge for this week is to use stamping on your photo, either by rubber stamping or with digi. I chose digi elements in white for the edge of the photo, hopefully you will see them in a close up shot.

Home away from home

Disney style. This is our fave resort at Disney so far - Caribbean Beach Resort. We feel very comfortable here and when you stay 8 days, it really does feel like home. I thought it would be fun to crop one of my photos so that it looks like a panoramic shot when printed.

I used older Prima papers, cut out my own palm and leafies. The flowers are made from a sheer fabric and its kind of like cheese cloth. The ribbon is a paper ribbon that I found in the gift wrap/party section of Hobby Lobby. Right away I thought of this resort because of the colors of our building.

Disney Challenge #1

At Disney Scrappers we are starting challenges again and I am so excited! Tami comes up with the best themes and such fun bonus challenges too. This is for the first challenge called "Under the Sea" so I did a page using photos from The Seas with Nemo and Friends at EPCOT. The extra challenge was to use waves or bubbles and I have a bit of both since the sign has bubbles on it. I used this awesome new collection called Barefoot and Bliss from Bo Bunny. I have to go back and get more of the goodies that go with it because I just love it. I made the flower from some raffia that is meant for gift wrap. I haven't quite gotten it straightened out but I will be making more of these since I have a bunch of blue raffia. LOL

What do you love about summer? My favorite thing about summer is vacationing with family and taking lots and lots of photos. It seems to run in my family. These are photos I took on the beach of my brother taking photos of the beach. LOL! I used embossed Bazzill for the background, My Minds Eye papers, and some nice Little Yellow Bicycle travel tags.

Sometimes thing happen and pages get lost or damaged. Sometimes I just don't like a page and think I can do better. I had about 4 of my disney pages lost one year when they were on display at CHA. I should have hand carried them home, but they went with the crates and ...well, you know how that is. This time it worked out rather well though, because I got to use this cute Beach Babe collection from Fancy Pants and it worked much better with my photo than the papers I had before.

Before telling you what I did for my page, I have to tell you that in this photo I am holding a Typhoon Tilly drink in a carved coconut that looks like a pirate. I am telling you this for two reasons: one because everyone always asks me that. LOL! and two you can just walk over to the bar hut in the water and get a yummy drink in a coconut pirate! Seriously, that's has to make you happy!

I cut out a BUNCH of cute designs from the paper and added my stamped tiki dude (he's the only thing that made it to the remake) The little flip flops are an applique that I got on clearance and the little charm was from my Disney buddy, Nancy. Thanks Nancy!

Disney Detail #14

I may have mentioned this but since the details are what makes Disney World so special I have made up numbers for some of my favorite details. I don't have a list, I just pick a number randomly. LOL! I was standing there taking a photo of the tree of life from across the little river and I saw this little root and its totally an elephant. I love the carvings, especially the humpback whale but this elephant root is myhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif favorite one now. I found an old photo of my son at Sea World when he was 2. He has never been real big on sharing and other kids wanted to play on this shark at the same time. LOL!

I used Basic Grey Lauderdale papers which were just so fun to play with. I have kraft cardstock for the background and I matted it with kraft cardstock and did some dry brushing and bubble wrap stamping with white acrylic paint. I also added a bit of doily above the waves just for fun. I made the scalloped shells just by accordion folding a scalloped circle shape and cutting til it looked right.

I have been wanting to do the How Much is too Much Challenges for awhile now. I just love the idea of using up your stash and I just love their designers. Well when I read their current challenge, I knew it was time to play along. I could literally use any photo that comes out of my camera for this weeks theme. Check out the HMITM challenge #172 HERE.

This week celebrates National Geek Pride Day. Now, I know we all have a little geek inside of us. Let's scrap about it! Show us in a layout something that's a little geeky about you (or a loved one)! We'll be using prime numbers on our layout.

I used 2 photos of me, a 3 word title - okay, its a 4 word title but two of them are small and the same color so we are pretending. I used 5 papers from Basic Grey (+2 because that's also a prime and I have paper issues), 7 word stickers, 11 metal brads for holly, and 13 green buttons. I cut the Doctor Who embellishments from the box that my mug came in and they are pretty cute in real life. My son came up with the clever uber geeky title so you pretty much have to have seen at least one episode to get it.

We are huge Doctor Who geeks here and this past Christmas Alex and I got a few cool Doctor Who things. This is the first of many pages of our geekness. LOL! I have photos of my Tshirt, Alex's Sonic Screwdriver, his Exterminate Dalek shirt, and my red kitchenaid looking dalek key chain. So celebrate the geek in you and do a page for this challenge! You have til the 5th so hurry!

Princess in disguise

Do you just love this cute Disney Princess dress paper from EK Success?! I had to do this ultra girly princess page just to be able to use this paper. For some reason I just dont have photos of my boys posing with princesses :) The great flowers are some that I have had for a long time and really wanted to use. They are K&Co. Topiaries

I have done this sort of thing before, but I just love the look of making tiny mickey topiaries from paper to go with my photos. This weeks Color Combos Galore #194 had the most perfect colors for my photos of the front of Epcot for the International Flower and Garden Festival and the challenge is to use numbers so I just had to make the mickey and minnie into the 0's for 2005. I used the Martha Stewart punch called hydrangeas with the tiny 4 petal flowers. I have a couple of close ups so you can kind of see how I did it. I want to do a bigger one on another page but these take awhile.

I used DCWV Cotton Blossom papers because they have fantastic glittery glossy bits, and also some papers from the Echo Park For the Record collection. Just perfect colors

Now I will admit that I didn't add the story because this page is for my sister's book and I wanted it to be in her hand writing. The journaling block is in a pocket behind the photo which is raised with foam tape. Her birthday is tomorrow so she will be getting it soon. Happy Birthday Angie!

I used Girls Paperie papers and cut my little hearts with my Sure Cuts ALot2. Its just so much faster than punches and I like the control over size. I made the little white flowers using punches. I have to thank Fi for the idea to use a border with layered paper and Dottie Mesh :) And the big flower is just fabric flowers from K&Co and I gathered the big one in a circle to give it a puff and make it smaller.

dancing with beast ... sort of

These are old photos of my sister and I pretending to dance with Beast at Disneyland in 1992. I have scrapped them for my book but this page is for her book. I pulled out some Basic Grey Sugar Rush because it was as close as I could get to these colors. Why do no paper collections ever have royal blue in them!? It seems to be in all of my photos. I used a super cute Imaginisce carriage stamp for the first time but most of these things are from the stash. Don't be afraid to pull out the older products. You have them, you may as well use them.

Space Ranger Spin

This is one of our favorite rides and I have alot of photos so I just really needed a 2 page layout... or more. :) I used 2 page Sketch #12 from Sketch Savvy {HERE}. http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif I used Basic Grey, Momenta, and DCWV papers, along with the Toy Story Cricut cartridge. I did forget the hidden mickey until after I took these photos so I just added it and its not in the photos. Also a little tip - if you have these vinyl American Crafts Thickers that are gooey and don't actually stick, stitch them down. They're not going anywhere now! LOL

Color Combos Galore #192

Well its that time again for another Color Combos Galore Challenge (#192) - check it out HERE. The photo and colors are really pretty and the challenge is to create dimension thru layering. I chose some fun photos from Blizzard Beach and I used my cricut "Winter Woodland" cartridge for the title, skis, and snowflakes. I found some really beautiful black lace in my stash and some super soft mint fabric. The background is a white cardstock with embossed circles by DCWV. The blue papers are DCWV Cotton Bloom, and most of the other patterned papers are ancient Making Memories. I knew I kept that paper for something important. :)

Natl Scrapping day challenges

This year since Natl Scrapbooking day was on the Saturday before Mother's day, alot of people didn't get to play along with the challenges so at DisneyScrappers we have some challenges {HERE} to play along with all week. If you love disney scrapping, come over and play along. I finally finished my layout for the challenge using rolled papers. It was just the right embellishment to go with my tropical page. This is first thing in the morning when we got to Typhoon Lagoon and it was my son's first time there so he was pretty excited.

I used New Fancy Pants Beach Bum papers and some of my Inque Boutique stamps. The fluff in the center of the yellow flowers is what you get when you scrape the edge of cardstock - kind of like DIY flocking. I saw Betsy Veldman use it for one of her cards and I just love the idea.

Mother's day is just a couple of days away so HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all of you and your wonderful moms! Color Combos Galore Challenge #191 is live (check out the beautiful layouts and cards from the Design Team HERE) and the theme is best Mothers Day Gift Ever. When I thought of my best gift, my first thought was one year when Mom and Jim went to Moody Gardens with us. Now the colors this week are awesome and my mom loves daisies, but I decided to add a touch of blue like in the inspiration photo -also because my dress was soooo blue in my photo. I used papers from My Minds Eye and Crate Paper. The daisies are Martha Stewart and the other flowers are made using MME papers and adapted from {this tutorial on youtube}. I used the same technique but added beads in the center and I decided to mostly use the medium version of that flower punch. Speaking of punches, do you love my new giant border punch? It's from EK Success and you will be seeing alot of it. LOL! The quilted heart is a cool find of mine. I went to our community wide garage sale a couple of weeks ago and found a piece of a very old quilt for $2. It's about 4x6' and I draped it across a dresser in my scraproom so I can cut off pieces to use. :)

kissing toads...

Ok, I should say ALMOST kissing toads because this carved wood Mr Toad is beautiful but its in the queue at Mr Toads Wild Ride at Disneyland and there is no way I am actually kissing that thing! LOL! I already have a prince so I really didn't need one. My brother and I loved this ride from the first time we rode it at Walt Disney World. I sure wish that version still existed, but it's still great to ride it in Disneyland. My good friend Nancy and I had a great day at the park and took alot of fun photos like this. We both decided to scrap these photos and you just have to check out Nancy's Blog HERE to see her version because it blows mine away. I had fun using this new Simple Stories "100 Days of Summer" collection for my page. I just love these papers! The colors seem to be perfect for just about everything.

T is for Trouble *CCG

Color Combos Galore Challenge #190 is live and the challenge was to use photos of siblings or pets as inspired by the photo. I chose this photo of my brother. He isn't really Trouble, but he sure looks like he would be in this photo. I used Papers from the "It's Raining, It's Pouring" collection from Nikki Silvis and the little turtle with the umbrella is cut from the papers. It's just such a cute collection. The clouds and sun chipboard are from Maya Road and I painted them and added a thick layer of Ranger's Rock Candy Crackle paint. The embossed paper under the photo is solid paper that I embossed with a Cuttlebug embossing folder and then sanded lightly. The book print is actually cut from an old kids book that I recently picked up at a garage sale.

The Mark Twain

My friend, Nancy, and I went to Disneyland while at CHA in 07 and 08, so we have ALOT of photos. For inspiration I asked her to pick a few that we will both scrap. The first one is this photo of The Mark Twain. I used Echo Park's "For the Record" collection and my sketch #57 from SketchSavvy. Keeping it rather simple allows this oversized photo to be the focus. And if you would like a step back in time aboard the Mark Twain...scroll down to this great youtube that I found.

A bit of nostalgia. Here is a segment from "Disneyland After Dark" that aired on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color on April 15th 1962. The legendary Louis Armstrong performs on the Mark Twain Riverboat at Disneyland. "Lazy River" and "Muskrat Ramble" are performed and you must see Monette Moore joining Louis for a rousing edition of "Bourbon Street Parade." Can you imagine being on board and just look how people dressed for an evening at Disneyland in 1962. You have to love it.

Splash Mountain

I was inspired by the super fantastic fussy cutter, Fi, to cut out some flowers for this page. Check out Fi's blog here because she is amazing. The K&Co "Amy Butler Lucky Flowers" were just the colors I needed for the first half of this ride. I have ALOT of photos of Splash Mountain from several trips to both parks. This is from our last trip to WDW. We were at the rope drop to make sure to get there first because the queue had been about 3 hours on our other day and we skipped it and that certainly would not.

It's not my video but I am buying the upgraded version of this video camera because it does really well in dark rides and water parks. I emailed the person who made this video and he was kind enough to tell me about the camera. Its waterproof and there is a new version that is even better. The new one is called a Sony TX10. He also has fantastic video tours of Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach using his Sony TX5.

Happy Easter everyone! I hope you have a nice weekend with family and chocolate planned. Color Combos Galore #189 is live and it is a great inspiration photo and really perfect color combo. The challenge is to add shimmer and shine so of course that's fun :) I did a layout with this adorable photo of Alex when he was 2 and I used papers from "Tres Jolie" by My Mind's Eye, the peach chipboard alphas are DCWV Nana's Nursery, and I made the little felt eggs. I used white Bazzill Bling cardstock behind the photo and of course some glittery letters and a white glittered heart from Melissa Frances (love those hearts!). The bunny is stamped and embossed with clear embossing powder and it's one of my stamps from Inque Boutique. The cute little duck chipboard in the upper left is from Crate Paper.

I know I have told you card makers out there that we would love for you to play along at Color Combos Galore too, but I hadn't posted any cards so this week I did a card as well and it was so fun that I may be doing one each week. I used some papers from Crate Paper, Girls Paperie, and cut the cute bunnies from Graphic 45 papers. I wasn't sure if I wanted the card to be for Easter only, so I stamped "Sending Love your way" inside.

cheapest lamp embellishment stand

Ok this may not be an ideal way to create an embellishment stand but I promise it's the cheapest. First I went to our community wide garage sale a couple of weeks ago and searched for a lamp that was tallish and thin. Next I looked for a good sized lampshade. I pulled the cord and bulb holder parts out and put the shade on top of the stand and then rigged it so that the fennial would stay on top. I spray painted the whole thing white and attached my embellishments with paperclips. Not that I had planned on the paperclips. Ideally I was going to get the nice clips from Joanns but I tried 2 JoAnns and neither had any. Michaels and Hob Lob don't carry them... so I had no choice. You know I am not a patient person so I would not be ordering online and waiting for them to get here. LOL!

I got the lamp for $4, the shade for $3, the Krylon paint was in the garage but I think they are usually about $4, and I found the paperclips in Dh's desk :). So yeah, I paid $7 total and this thing works pretty darn well. Figaro even slept next to it and did a little playing and it didn't fall over. Well, it hasn't fallen over yet.

Have you played along with Color Combos Galore's Challenges? I know alot of you guys follow the challenges, but have you been playing? Ok, if you are holding out because you just don't have time, make a card! Did you know cardmakers play along too? I guess I haven't mentioned it before but we would love some cardmakers to play too. I am going to try to remember to make a card for next weeks reveal too.

Ok you have got to see the colors this week and the Design Team projects HERE. At first glance, they don't look exciting and my first thought was "those are some cute boots! I wish my legs looked like that!" LOL! But these colors go with just about every photo. I decided to pull out some really cute silly photos of Alex from when he was shorter than me. I found lots of great papers from DCWV and Graphic 45 that were just the right color, and my friend Tami helped me with the most perfect title. Then I went digging in the game closet and found these Clue cards and envelope, scanned them and printed them out so I could stick them on my page. Even my husband thought they were from the game and wasn't thrilled. ;) I didn't have a dagger or gun so I found a little sword charm and we are calling it a dagger. Oh - notice that framed "?" - well I filled the background with Glossy Accents and the Pink Paislee "?" black bled into the glossy accents turning it blue. Not bad but unexpected so I thought I would mention it.

kitty adventures

It may not seem very exciting to get to go outside and sit on the patio or smell a few flowers but for a house kitty its a big deal. These photos are from Easter a couple of years ago. My husband took him on a little tour to smell flowers but he grabs and tries to eat most of them so he got to just sit on the table for a bit and watch birds. I had to take photos because he looks so pretty and fluffy outside in the sun.

I just got the new "Sweet Nectar" collection from K&Co and the colors are so beautiful that I had to do a page. I added one of these cool clear dimensional flower stickers from Momenta and a couple of Martha Stewart Daisies.

I used this adorable "It's Raining, it's Pouring" collection. that was so generously donated by http://www.nikkisivils.com/ for my layout. I just love the little clouds and umbrellas in convenient Disney colors ;) This weeks designer challenge is to use a wet medium so I spritzed the background with some Shimmerz and then splattered a bit of acrylic paint. I edged my pieces with a glossy black fabric paint and also used it for a dimensional title. I guess it looks more like tar than rain but it reminded me of rain. LOL!

Botanical Thank Yous

Last time I did a layout with the DCWV Botanicals Stack, I got carried away cutting out flowers so I had a couple extras. Don't you just love these flowers? I thought I would make a couple of thank you cards. All cardstock and papers are DCWV botanicals except the pink print, it's from the Garden Party Stack.

Color Combos Galore Challenge #186 is live and for once I am posting my page on time! :D As you can see I had ALOT of fun with this page. I had these great photos from Disneyland and wanted to do a reef looking page. I love the way they have planted around this area to make the plants look like a coral reef. Part of the challenge this week was to used layered or stacked elements as shown in the image with the stairs. I just had to make some box pleats and I actually made a tutorial that you can check out HERE at Color Combos Galore. I also used some metallic cup cake liners because they reminded me of scales. This yummy paper is mostly "Bissette" by SEI.

Bunny Land 1967

Yes, I was the first child, first grandchild also. Daddy liked to take photos so I have far more slides that are just of me than I care to admit. Looks like maybe I was a bit spoiled. These are some of my fave photos because a bunny you can sit on is the best kind of bunny.

I used Little Yellow Bicycle Clothesline papers, some Sassafras Lass images cut from patterned papers, and some trim, beads, and sequins from my Granny. The curly trim is just fringe cut and curled up.

I have to tell you about the photo I used because its quite annoying. Does this ever happen to you? You do a page with one photo only to find out there is another photo that should have been on that page with it! This is my sister in Key West and she was with our brother, well I looked thru the photos in the album and didn't see one of him in the same spot. Then later after I finished, I looked in the computer and found the other photo. Grrrrr!

I used some fun stuff on this page, cherry papers from Cosmo Cricket, awesome new leopard print from DCWV Lady Couture, shell trim, a crocheted flower from a project I never finished, and an extra lobster button I made for a pillow. The rub ons are Cosmo Cricket and Creative Imaginations.

I am trying to catch up a bit on the Color Combos Galore Challenges that I missed. This is one that I just really wanted to do because I love the colors and the photos. Its Challenge #180. The designer challenge was to use banners and I also added some yellow because I love the pop of yellow in the inspiration photo. This is my good friend Nancy when we were shopping for sweets for our kids at Downtown Disney at Disneyland so I had to take the chance to make a Minnie with my Cricut.

The red papers with the glittered accents are DCWV Cotton Blossom, and I also used some aqua Echo Park papers and Basic Grey Basic's papers. I cut the banners using THIS SCAL2 cutfile from SketchSavvy. The doily cutfile is from Cheri Wenger Digital Designs HERE.
